The quantity of data collected throughout the world is increasing at an exponential rate, and is expected to reach 64.2 zettabytes by 2020. To address the ever-increasing demand for computer resources for storing and processing Big Data, many cloud providers have outfitted their infrastructures with millions of energy-hungry servers spread over numerous geographically independent data centers. This significantly increases the amount of energy required to run these data centers. However, as data volumes and data center size increase, energy consumption will remain a big problem in the Cloud. As a result, it is critical to make cloud data management energy efficient.

To accomplish this goal, we model human-human dialogue, integrate the models into ECAs, and then assess their performance. This is a three to four-year Ph.D. contract.
